The very first Christmas present I ever asked for was a camera. I'd sucker up the most hopeful expression I could muster when I'd sit on Santa's lap hoping blissfully that I could be the owner of a piece of technology so magnificent that it could freeze a moment in time. I used to borrow my parents camera all the time and beg my 3 younger sisters to model my crazy ideas for me. I remember flipping through magazines (National Geographic being my favorite at the time) and noting how vividly the imagery stood out to me. How can a photo make you feel so many things at once? I wanted to chase that feeling and never look back.
I was only 16...
I vividly recall when I was just a sophomore in high school and my beloved grandpa passed away like it was yesterday. We used to spend every single Sunday at his house. He was always the glue that held my dad and his 9 other siblings and all of their children together. I had some of the best times of my life in those seemingly short years.
I always ached for more photos together, more memories to look back on. I cherish deeply the ones of him and my grandmother I never got to meet. I've never stopped photographing since. Your memories deserve to be documented. The crease in your smile, the hiccup of your laugh and the way you look at one another.
It deserves to be remembered.
